Incheon Foundation for Arts & Culture, led by CEO Lee Jong-gwan, announced that Incheon Art Platform will officially begin operating its 2026 creative studios starting in May.

This year, Incheon Art Platform will support 15 artist teams through two different programs: the open-call residency program and the exchange-based residency program. For the open-call residency, eight teams were selected from a nationwide pool of 227 applicants. The exchange-based residency program will support seven teams through university partnerships and international exchange initiatives.

The eight artist teams selected through the 2026 Incheon Art Platform Creative Studio Project open call will each receive a grant of KRW 9 million and be assigned a creative studio for an eight-month residency period from May through December. By genre, the selected participants include six visual arts teams, one performing arts team, and one interdisciplinary arts team. Two of the selected teams are artists affiliated with Incheon.

The Incheon Art Platform Creative Studios program has operated through two parallel models: the open-call format and the exchange-based format. Beginning this year, the scope of each support program will be expanded.

From 2024 to 2025, the open-call program operated the Incheon Emerging Artist Studio Support Program for young artists based in Incheon. In 2026, the newly established Creative Studio Project selected eight artist teams across various disciplines through a nationwide open call.

A key feature of the Creative Studio Project, the open-call studio program, is that participating artists are required to organize at least three public workshops each, incorporating processes of communication with local citizens into their creative practices. In addition, throughout the month of November, participating artists will transform their studios into presentation spaces to showcase the outcomes of their projects to the public.

The exchange-based studio program supports seven teams across three categories. Through the university partnership project, three young artist teams are supported in collaboration with art universities in the Incheon region, while two international artist teams are supported through international exchange initiatives. As part of the Incheon Artist of the Year program, creative studios are also provided to two artists affiliated with Incheon.

An official from Incheon Art Platform stated, “2026 marks the inaugural year of changes to the operating structure of the Incheon Art Platform Creative Studios. Through the revival of the nationwide open-call studio program, we aim to support accomplished artists in engaging with Incheon citizens and developing diverse forms of artistic creation connected to the local community.”

The official added, “The exchange-based studio program will provide studios to emerging local artists through partnerships with regional universities and support project presentations for each participating team. International exchange initiatives will also be expanded, with artists from Taiwan and Australia scheduled to take up residency at Incheon Art Platform.

In addition, we will continue operating a program that provides studios and supports curated exhibitions for two mid-career and emerging artists affiliated with Incheon who have been selected for the Incheon Artist of the Year program.”

Meanwhile, Incheon Art Platform is currently operating a Portfolio Lounge introducing the portfolios of its 2026 resident artists through June 7 at its newly established Project Space, an exhibition venue dedicated to resident artists created as part of the platform’s spatial reorganization.
