《Club Monster》 is a contemporary art exhibition centered on popular music as a primary motif—music that has reflected the spirit of its time while giving voice to the lives of ordinary people.

The exhibition title “Club Monster” carries a dual meaning. On one hand, it refers to the gathering of contemporary artists and popular musicians participating in the exhibition, positioning them as creative “monsters” of humanity.

On the other, it evokes the notion of the “club” as a social and cultural space frequented by audiences in their twenties and thirties—though visitors in their forties through eighties, young at heart, are equally welcomed as members of the “club.”

By transforming the exhibition venue into the atmosphere of a club, the exhibition seeks to make contemporary art—often perceived as difficult or inaccessible—more approachable to the public. In doing so, themes that can easily become heavy, such as human rights, the spirit of the age, and healing, are reconfigured into an engaging and accessible space shaped by a cool and youthful sensibility.

The musicians featured in the exhibition were selected from around the world for works that embodied the spirit of their respective eras and offered strength and courage to the public through music. Their songs continue to resonate across time and space.

The exhibition introduces music by more than seventy artists, including Bob Dylan—who recently drew renewed attention following his Nobel Prize in Literature—as well as John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Hahn Dae Soo, Deulgukhwa, and Kendrick Lamar.

The music presented throughout the exhibition revolves around themes such as human rights, the spirit of the age, healing, and empathy, addressing issues deeply embedded in contemporary life: women’s rights, racial discrimination, educational inequality, poverty, anti-war movements, the threat of terrorism, gender, marginalized cultural communities, and emotional healing.

Among these works, John Lennon’s Imagine, which inspired several participating contemporary artists, stands as a representative example of a song that continues to resonate more than thirty years after its release. Following the terrorist attacks at Brussels Airport, citizens gathered to sing Imagine in tribute to the victims, while church bells echoed its melody throughout the city.

In this way, the exhibition presents music that has generated healing and empathy across time and space, alongside thirty-one works by contemporary artists from Korea and abroad that were either directly inspired by these songs or engage with the same spirit of the age.
