On the 30th, artist Geumhyung Jeong was selected as the recipient of the 16th Hermès Foundation Missulsang, sponsored by the Hermès Foundation.

The jury stated, “Jeong expresses issues such as the body, sexuality, power, and oppression through inventive performances.” They added, “Having studied theatre and contemporary dance, she has expanded her practice into the field of visual art, constructing a new artistic form.”

The Hermès Foundation Missulsang was established in 2000 with the aim of contributing to the development of culture and the arts by supporting the Korean art scene, becoming the first foreign corporation in Korea to do so.

While the award had previously been presented annually, beginning with its 16th edition it was reorganized as a biennial award.

In addition, the previous format—in which three shortlisted artists presented exhibitions before the final recipient was selected—was revised. Under the new system, four jurors from the Korean and international art worlds preselected one final recipient, who was then granted a four-month residency opportunity in Paris, France, followed by a solo exhibition the following year.
