The Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art's Local Network Exchange Exhibition has unfolded the stories of today, involving the lives of contemporaries, through the composition of two teams of artists in various forms.

It has been hosted annually since 2014, and this exhibition will feature RohwaJeong, an artistic duo who took part in the museum’s Artist-in-Residence program in 2022, and Moojin Brothers, who also work as a team. Each group works closely together, sharing every step of the creation process, from conceiving ideas, production of work, to writing up texts.

RohwaJeong has expressed their keen interest in various relationships, ranging from the one-to-one relationship of ‘me and you’, to the center and surroundings, as well as individuals and society through sensuous drawings, videos, and installations.

Moojin Brothers have collected stories of ordinary individuals or questioned the collective consciousness deeply established in society, and have revealed the contemporary aspects in the forms of poetic images and texts.

The exhibition rolls out in seven different scenes. The Artists unravel the exhibition theme ‘Nature Human’ using such subjects as glaciers, neglected tangerine boxes, wind chimes, waste banners, natural landscapes, and animals in the scorching heat of midday.

The exhibition title 《fragile+true blue》 is a combination of the titles of the representative works of Moojin Brothers and RohwaJeong, and can be interpreted in various contexts beyond the ordinary meanings of ‘fragile’ and ‘true blue’.

‘Fragile’ implies the imperfection of all phenomena, in which ‘even a minimum of ethics towards one another is susceptible to breaking’; ‘true blue’ also embodies ‘the ambiguity of human belief, only to turn out to be an illusion’ of a phenomenon. After all, 《fragile+true blue》 is a combination of the intension to reflect on the fragile relationship of nature and humans to which the two teams call attention.

Six new films, five three-dimensional installations, and 365 drawings vividly display the current situation of human life, which is out of harmony and balance. Let’s follow the eyes of the artists who correspond to the present era, and meet the uncomfortable self-portrait of the contemporary.
