Saint Laurent’s Seoul flagship store has been transformed into an artistic cultural space in celebration of 《Portrait of a Collection: Selected Works from the Pinault Collection》, an exhibition that opened at SONGEUN on September 4.

Founded by François Pinault—the founder of the Kering Group and owner of the auction house Christie’s—the Pinault Collection comprises more than 10,000 works of art spanning from the 1960s to the present day. The exhibition draws inspiration from 《Ouverture》, the inaugural exhibition presented in 2021 when the Pinault Collection opened the Bourse de Commerce as a museum in Paris.

Curated by Caroline Bourgeois, Chief Curator of the Pinault Collection, the exhibition brings together works by artists featured in the original exhibition, including Rudolf Stingel, Luc Tuymans, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, and Marlene Dumas, alongside works by additional artists such as Danh vo, David Hammons, Anri Sala, and Ji Hye Yeom.

As the official sponsor of the exhibition’s first presentation in Asia, Saint Laurent has reimagined its Seoul flagship store as a special venue throughout the exhibition period. Under the direction of Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello, the store has been curated as a new cultural destination.

As part of this initiative, two video works by Ji Hye Yeom, one of the participating artists in the exhibition, are being screened on large-scale displays: Le Soleil Noir(Black Sun) (2019) and The Manifesto of Handstanderus (2021).

Both works were personally selected by Caroline Bourgeois, curator of the exhibition. Ji Hye Yeom focuses on spaces where past and present, experience and memory, image and dream, legend and narrative become intertwined. Through her work, she explores the new connections that emerge within these blurred boundaries, proposing alternative perspectives on the world and new modes of storytelling.

Visitors to the Saint Laurent Seoul flagship store will also find an expanded selection of cultural offerings throughout the exhibition period, which runs until November 23. In addition to publications related to the Pinault Collection, the store presents a variety of books from the Saint Laurent Babylone Selection and Saint Laurent Editions—items rarely available in Korea—as well as Saint Laurent Rive Droite and lifestyle products.
