Gyeonggi Province (DMZ Policy Division) and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (President Lee Sun-myung) held open calls for visual artists and street art works as part of the Camp Greaves DMZ Peace Platform Project, selecting six visual artists or teams and ten street art works on the 24th.

The open call for visual artists invited proposals for new works addressing the DMZ and Camp Greaves. A total of 23 artists applied, resulting in a competition rate of approximately four to one.

A seven-member selection committee comprising representatives from Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization as well as external experts evaluated the proposals based on criteria including site-specific relevance, creativity and overall quality of the work, and audience participation, ultimately selecting six artists and teams.

The selected artists—Kang HyunAh, PARK Seong Jun, Insane Park, Jang Yongsun, Jang Youngwon, and c.realTimes (Kang Min-jun, Kim Min-kyung, and Song Cheonju)—will work for two months in creative spaces within Camp Greaves before presenting new works throughout the site beginning in August.

The works will encompass a range of genres, including interactive art (in which artists and audiences interact through the artwork, such as works that change in response to audience movement), sculpture, painting, and installation (a form that actively utilizes space through the combined arrangement of multiple elements).

For the street art open call, 37 works across a variety of genres competed at a ratio of approximately four to one, with ten works ultimately selected based on criteria including artistic quality and audience participation. The ten performing groups and artists are Lady Bounce, Moon Ji-yoon, People In Backpack, Samulnori FeelAk, Ain, Woorihana Arts Cooperative, Won Tae-yoon, Strange Bar, Jeon Sang-hoon, and Contents Monster.

Performances will take place at the Camp Greaves outdoor stage beginning June 2, with two performances every Saturday and one every Sunday. Featuring popular music, fusion gugak, street dance, street theater, magic, and other genres, the program is expected to offer visitors a dynamic and engaging experience.
