Paradise Cultural Foundation (Chairwoman Choi Yoon-jung) announced on May 25 that it had selected 10 works through the open call for its art creation and production support program, 2020 Paradise Art Lab.

The selected artists and teams are Haein Kang, Joon Moon, Yang Jung Uk, Ujoo + Limheeyoung, DARV by Jung In Lee, Youngkak Cho, Sung Rok Choi, Tacit Group, collective A, and PROTOROOM, consisting of Hoonida Kim and Seungbum Kim.

The works selected for Paradise Art Lab span a wide range of genres, including installation, media façade, performing arts, and audiovisual art.

In particular, the program is expected to showcase emerging artistic trends incorporating technologies such as artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).

The selected works will receive a combined KRW 300 million in production funding and producing support, and a showcase will be held at Paradise City in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, in October.

Now in its second year, Paradise Art Lab is a program that supports practices combining art and technology without imposing boundaries between genres.

This year, more than 200 works were submitted through the open call launched in January, and 10 works were ultimately selected following a first-round document review and a second-round presentation review by experts.

Chairwoman Choi Yoon-jung said, “Paradise Art Lab was conceived to explore the present state of art, in which technological development has removed many limits on artistic expression, and to create possibilities for the art of the future. We will continue to support artists’ creative practices and develop the program into a global platform through which they can communicate with the public.”
