Artist Min Oh(42) was finally selected on the 3rd as the recipient of the Hermès Foundation Missulsang, which marks its 17th edition this year.

According to the jury, she is an artist whose work makes “visual devices summon hearing, and sound summon visual information,” and who “directs the performance of audiovisual devices and information, allowing viewers to experience the relationship between auditory images and movement.”

The jury, composed of four figures from the Korean and international art worlds, commented, “Min Oh has shown aesthetic consistency while boldly experimenting with interests spanning music, dance, and visual art,” and described her as “an artist with possibilities open toward every direction sensorially, conceptually, and methodologically, and whose future path we are most curious to follow.”

Min Oh, who studied piano at a music college and later majored in visual design at an art school, has mainly worked between Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she currently resides, and Seoul.

Her solo exhibitions in Korea were held last year under the title 《1 2 3 4》 at Doosan Gallery and the year before under the title 《Trio》 at Daelim Museum’s D Project Space Gu Seul Moa Billiard Hall.

Under the new format introduced by the Hermès Foundation Missulsang last year, Min Oh will take part in a four-month residency provided by the Hermès Foundation in Paris, France, and will then hold a solo exhibition next September at Atelier Hermès on Dosan-daero, Seoul.

Previously, the prize had selected its final recipient after three nominees presented new works through an exhibition each year. Established in 2000, the Hermès Foundation Missulsang has so far produced recipients including Young-hae Chang Heavy Industries, Kim Beom, Bahc Yiso, Do Ho Suh, Park Chan-kyong, Koo Jeong A, Chang Min-seung, and Geumhyung Jeong.
