Park Jung-Kee (46), a native of Cheongsong, has been selected for Daegu Art Museum’s 2018 Y+ Artist Project, while Ji Hye Yeom (35) has been chosen as the museum’s Y Artist.

Launched in 2017, the Y+ Artist Project is a support program for regional artists between the ages of 40 and 49. Following Jong-Heon Bae and Han Moochang, Park Jung-Kee is the third artist to be selected for the program. Y Artist, meanwhile, is an exhibition support program for emerging artists under the age of 40 that has been running since 2012. Ji Hye Yeom becomes the program’s tenth selected artist.

The artists were chosen by a selection committee composed of the Head of Curatorial Affairs at Daegu Art Museum and four external jurors, who reviewed candidates nominated by a panel of recommenders.

Park Jung-Kee graduated from the Department of Korean Painting at Yeungnam University and completed a master’s degree at the University of Fine Arts Münster in Germany. He is a conceptual artist whose installation and performance works critically yet humorously engage with discourses surrounding art.

Ji Hye Yeom studied Painting at Seoul National University and earned an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College. Through animation and spatial installations, she explores stories about the diverse relationships among people, culture, politics, and society that are connected to specific places.

KANG Seyun, the curator in charge of the project, commented, “Ji Hye Yeom presents her own narratives and distinctive visual imagery, moving fluidly between reality and fantasy.” She added, “Park Jung-Kee addresses artistic discourse and social concerns through experimental and constantly evolving works.”

Daegu Art Museum plans to support solo exhibitions and related projects by Park Jung-Kee and Ji Hye Yeom throughout 2018.
