Wonseok Koh, Chair of the Visual Arts Jury for the Parkdongjun Prize, explained the committee’s decision: “Ji Hye Yeom received high praise for her exceptional ability to orchestrate heterogeneous resources such as sound and literature within a consistent conceptual framework. Furthermore, her sustained engagement with signs of existential crises facing contemporary society—including the climate crisis and geopolitical conflicts—and her efforts to incorporate these issues into her artistic practice as a form of creative response closely align with the spirit of this award.”

In her acceptance statement, Ji Hye Yeom remarked, “Because I have continued making work while only half knowing where it was leading, receiving recognition like this feels both unfamiliar and deeply appreciated. I owe this honor to those who have accompanied me through the uncertainty of the artistic process and to those who have continued to support and observe my work over time. I will continue creating without concealing moments of uncertainty and hesitation.”

Born in Seoul in 1982, Ji Hye Yeom studied Painting at Seoul National University and earned an MFA from Goldsmiths College in the United Kingdom. She has presented six solo exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at Daegu Art Museum in 2018, and has actively participated in numerous group exhibitions.

Her works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), Leeum Museum of Art, Daegu Art Museum, Seoul National University Museum of Art, the Pinault Collection in France, and other institutions.

Recipients of the Parkdongjun Prize receive a cash award of KRW 20 million and a commemorative plaque. An exhibition accompanying the award ceremony will be held in November.
